How to Apply a Wig Pin up your hair. If your hair is long, separate the hair into two pieces, and twist. Cross the two pieces behind your head, and clip them across the top. This is an easy way to even your hair out on your head without a huge ponytail bulge. Shorter hair can simply be combed and clipped to the crown of the head, or placed into a bun at the base of your neck. You could also braid your hair before applying a wig
Pin up any bangs. If you have a fringe or side fringe and you cannot get a wig cap, you may find it helpful to wear a small hair band to keep hair from showing under your wig. Elastic ones are the best to use because they are more comfortable and are usually smaller.
Put on a wig cap. For long hair you can use a wig cap to hold it all in and ensure a smooth fit. It will help keep the wig on.

Put the wig on your head from front to back. There are two tabs on each front/side of the wig. Position this right in front of your ears. Don't worry if it doesn't look perfect right away. Go ahead and style/brush it into place the way you'd like it to look.

Accessorize. If you'd like extra coverage, or to add something onto the look you are going for, you can use accessories, such as a jeweled headband if you're dressing up as Cleopatra or Delilah, or a bow tied on the back of your head if you're dressing up as a schoolgirl.

Tips

Be Confident. The right attitude is key to pulling off any hairstyle. If you are constantly worrying or fidgeting with your wig it won't look good. Own it!, Walk tall, be confident and you will be able to pull off any look you want.

Customize Your Cut. Let us customize your wig for you, have bangs cut or trimmed, shaped or thinned out to remove excess bulk. A custom cut can make a world of difference. Think of your wig like a designer suit. Sure, you can wear it off the rack (or out of the box) and it can look good, but with a little tailoring it can look GREAT!

Invest in the Right Care Products. If you want to extend the life of your wig and keep it looking beautiful the proper care products are essential. Synthetic wigs require care products specifically formulated for synthetic hair. For human hair wigs, choose sulfate-free care products or products specifically formulated for color treated hair to keep the color looking vibrant, longer.

Always Think Ahead. You should always have two wigs ready to wear at all times. This way you always have something to wear when you are washing your wig and a back up if anything should happen to one. Rotating between wigs also helps to extend the life.

Kitchen Tips. If you love to cook here is a tip every wig wearer should know; NEVER open the oven while wearing a synthetic wig! The sudden burst of heat will ruin your wig; even the hot steam from a boiling pot of water can cause irreparable damage.
Avoid these kitchen disasters. Swap your wig for a stylish scarf or comfy cap; better yet, kick back and let someone else do the dirty work.

Dial the Down Shine. To minimize shine on a synthetic wig, sprinkle a little hair powder on your wig, and then brush through for a more natural look.

Blend In Your Own Hair. If your natural hair is somewhat close to your wig color try blending in your own hair along the hairline for a more natural look. Apply the wig then pull out small sections of your own hair along the sides and front using your fingers or a rattail comb. Even if your own hair is just a few inches long, this will really help to make your wig look and feel more natural and create a seamless hairline. Add a headband, scarf or any hair accessory to create a personal touch. Just because you are wearing a wig doesn't mean you have to wear it the same way all the time. Be creative.

Stay Close to Your Current Style. Choose a wig close to your current hairstyle. What is going to look the most natural on you, is a style that looks like YOU! A familiar style will help you feel more confident and make the transition from wearing your own hair to wearing wigs a good experience. Experiment with subtle style variations, but stay within your comfort zone.

Create Different Hairstyles. If your hair is chin length or longer, try a half-up, half-down style. For longer wigs, try a loose up do or low ponytail.
To make these looks work; keep it soft, loose and a little messy. Keep the bangs down (unless you have a lace front wig) and pull down a few tendrils of hair along the hairline to keep it looking natural.

Go Curly or Straight. A new generation of synthetic hair allows you to use heat up to 350 make it curling irons and flat irons safe which let you curl or straighten the heat defined synthetic hair!

Synthetic Cleaning Instructions:

To wash your wig, mix about one teaspoon of shampoo in cool water.

Bathe your wig in the soapy water. Allow it to soak for a few minutes.

Rinse with clean cool water. You may need to rinse twice to get out all the shampoo.

Gently pat dry with a towel. Do not comb or brush while wet!

Spray with conditioner lightly and place over a plastic wig stand to dry. The stand will allow air to pass through your wig while maintaining its original size and shape. If you wash it in the evening, it will be dry by morning.

Once your wig is dry, gently brush to desired style.

do not allow it to dry on a Styrofoam head, as it may stretch the cap.

Synthetic Wigs Care Instructions:

For best results, only use products specifically made for synthetic wigs.

For curly styles, use fingers or a wide tooth wig comb for styling. Brushing may pull out the curl pattern.

A spray conditioner once a week and after every shampoo will keep your wig fibers supple and looking their best.

How often you wash your wig is up to you. Like a fine fabric that has to be washed by hand, it depends how often you wear it and whether or not it needs to be deodorized. Be careful not to allow anything with heat to touch synthetic hair. For example: hairdryers or curling irons. Also, be careful checking on food in your oven, if you get too close it could cause damage to the fibers.

Heat Defined Synthetic & Human Hair Wigs Care Instructions:

Fill the basin with cold/lukewarm water.
Mix small amount of conditioner and shampoo in the basin of water.
Let the wig soak for approx. 5-10 minutes.
Swirl lightly and rinse it off with clean water.
Repeat #1-4 using the conditioner.
Towel dry the hair and place it on a wire head stand.
Comb/brush the wig to desired style and let it dry.
You can air dry or blow dry in low to medium setting.
Use styling iron to create a desired look.
Heat Defined Synthetic & Human Hair Styling:

Make sure you brush the hair daily and apply some leave-in conditioners to keep the hair soft and moist. A good leave-in hair treatment can keep the hair from drying. But remember not to put too much, otherwise, there will be a build up and make the hair feel too heavy. If the hair feels too dry or heavy with too much hair care products, you should wash the hair with good shampoo and conditioner. You may apply products such as Bio-Silk Therapy to keep hair manageable.

You may apply styling gel or mousse on wavy hair. Avoid hair products that contain alcohol. Alcohol makes the hair dry. It is best to air dry the hair but you can also blow-dry with low to medium heat. (Too much heat may damage/dry out the hair.)

For the WET & WAVE hair such as the French Refined and the European Wave, you may test the wave by wetting a small portion away from the rest. Place the hair on a desk, a small portion away from the rest, spray some water, and let it soak for about 15 seconds. Hold the top of the hair while it is on the desk and gently brush the wet portion from the bottom and watch it wave. Towel dry and scrunch it to wave up more..

Insurance Coverage

Filing Insurance Claims for your wig

Wig Reimbursed by your Insurance Company & ICD-9 CPT Codes for a Cranial Prosthesis.

If you or someone you love needs to wear a wig because of medical reasons, the wig should be called cranial hair prosthesis for insurance purposes. If a person requires a cranial prosthesis due to medical related hair loss they may be eligible for reimbursement under their health insurance. Most insurance companies will cover from 80% to 100% of cranial prosthesis.

Guidelines for Filling Initial Insurance Claims:

1. Coverage for "prescribed Cranial Prosthesis" due to medical hair loss, not wigs for cosmetic reasons.

2. The commonly C.P.T code used is CPT-ORN-1 or A9282

3. Get a Prescription from your doctor. It should say "cranial Prosthesis" not "Wig" otherwise it may be refused.

4. Make sure you get a receipt from whom your provider and it should state: Cranial Prosthesis.

Guidelines in case your claim gets denied:

1. Know your rights as the insured person.

2. Obtain a copy of your FULL contract with your carrier (most of us only have a summary of Benefits" provided by the employer)

3. Read and know your contract.

A. Pay attention to the "exclusions"

B. Pay special attention to Prosthesis coverage. Most policies do not spell out exclusions under Prosthesis, and this is how you are likely to have your Claim accepted.

Guidelines for submitting your appeal if your claim is denied:

1. Write to the Medical Review Board to review your claim.

2. Attach copy of original claims.

3. In your letter, inform them of the difference between a wig and a prosthesis. ( A wig is a fashion item and not an necessity. Prosthesis is a necessity comparable to plastic surgery for a burn victim).

4. Ask for the reply to be in writing (Companies try to avoid putting anything in writing).

5. Address your letter to a supervisor in the Claim Department.

Sometimes Doctors do this when the codes are not necessary and it is also used to save money for the patient or the insurance company.

No medical bill will exclude an ICD-9 that is necessary. If the procedure was performed, the code will be included.
